Pills and Pints is an examination of women’s experiences in the Irish state after its establishment in 1922. The project looks at what the Irish state meant for women’s everyday lives and the changes that came about in the 1970s. The series of images represents the legislation which directly impacted women, from a lack of access to contraception and reproductive healthcare, to censorship, as well as the dominance of the Catholic Church. The project was inspired by the centenary of women’s suffrage and the Repeal movement in 2018.
